Family road trip, 2005
This year, we took a good old fashioned family road trip
vacation from Birmingham to Austin
to San Antonio to Piedras
Negras, Mexico
and back again. All told, we traveled some 2300 miles, and no one got bit! But,
here are a few pictures from that trip.
The first night, we stayed in Shreveport,
LA at Sam’s Casino. The room was large and
cheap. Here’s Christopher looking cool in the pool. While
in Austin, we stayed with our
friends Russ and Teresa. We got to see their new boat,
though the motor was on the blink, so we couldn’t sail. Here we are out in front of the Oasis. Christopher took this picture!
While in Austin, we did go see the great view from Mount Bonnell, and we paid a visit to the
great University of Texas
at Austin. Here
we are in front of the tower.
We departed Austin
and wandered towards San Antonio.
Here is me and Christopher just across the street from the
Alamo. Here is a picture of Christopher and Suzie
right after dinner at La Fogata, which is one of the best Tex-Mex restaurants
on the planet. Of course we had to ride the riverboat,
as well.
After a couple of hot days in San
Antonio, we wandered down to Eagle
Pass, Texas, which is right on
the border of Mexico,
across from Piedras Negras. Christopher and I enjoyed
the pool quite a lot! We walked across the border into Mexico
to eat and shop. Here’s a picture of Christopher at the
Mercado; and here is another. We ate dinner at
the Café Moderno, a truly fine Mexican restaurant. Here we cooling in the lounge. The waiter took this picture.
More to come!
